Cornelius-Lemley Fire & Rescue provides fire suppression & prevention, emergency medical, and rescue services to the citizens of Cornelius and surrounding Mecklenburg County. In 2007 we responded to 2373 calls for service, 1203 Fire and 1170 EMS calls. We respond first due in the town of Cornelius and have automatic mutual aid contracts with the Davidson, Huntersville and Gilead fire departments. We also run mutual aid EMS calls with North Meck Rescue, Davidson Rescue and Gilead Rescue.
We operate out of two fire stations. Firehouse 1 is located at 19729 S. Main St. and is first due in areas East of I-77. Firehouse 1 responds second due to Davidson and Huntersville fire districts. Firehouse 2 is located at 19230 Charlestowne Ln. and is first due in areas west of I-77. Firehouse 2 is also second due in the Gilead fire district. The Cornelius-Lemley Fire Rescue Department operates four Engine Companies, Two Ladder Companies, one Resuce Company, one Brush Truck and One Fire Boat. The department also maintains one Rescue as a spare. Firehouse 1 houses E-5, E-3, E-1, H&L-44, R-4 and reserve R13. Firehouse 2 houses E-4, L-4, B-6 and Marine 1.
Cornelius Fire & Rescue is a Volunteer Fire Department. Our volunteers carry voice pagers, which alerts them to calls, and alpha pagers, which allows them to read the address and nature of the call. Volunteers are encouraged to pull duty shifts at either of the fire stations. When our volunteers are not at the station they respond from home or work. We also have part-time paid staff at each station everyday. There are four personnel at each station during the weekdays and three during the weeknights. Stations 1 & 2 are staffed with three personnel on the weekends during the day and night. Our part time staff is made up of the members of the Cornelius-Lemley Fire Department.
